Embo House Armorial
Embo House Armorial

Armorial incorporated in Embo House, Dornoch. The Embo House description page 38 in the book 'Sutherland - An Illustrated Architectural Guide' by Elizabeth Beaton ISBN 1-873190-24-7 states : "The west range contained kitchen with segmental-headed hearth with reset armorial date 1657. The arms are those of Sir Robert Gordon of Embo and his wife Jean Leslie.' The photograph of the armorial shows a date of 1677 rather than 1657 as quoted in the book.

There is also a marriage stone incorporated into an arch, in what used to be the cattle court at Embo farm.
Added by Bill Hadden on 21 March 2011
The stone referred to by Mr Hadden is probably that of the first baronet, who married Margaret Leslie (aunt of Jean)in which case the date may have been 1627. Was that stone ever photographed?
