Cap badge of the Highland Light Infantry, in silver-coloured metal and brass? in shape of dimpled saltire with central emblem of a bugle (71st Foot) around the letters HLI surmounted by a crown. The motto ASSAYE is below the bugle, with an elephant (74th Foot) at the bottom. Complete with pin. Came from box of material from Grant family.

I have one that is all gold at least it appears to be gold with the marks on the back. How much are they worth ?

I have an identical cap badge which was my father's. He was
a piper in the HLI band and I have several other mementos of
his. His chanter and a photo of the band taken as part of the
BAOR in 1919. He was born in April 1900 and luckily missed the worst of the fighting.~ Many thanks for your comment. Administrator.
