The Historylinks Archive

The Historylinks Archive provides access to the complete museum collection of 15,172 objects. The website was launched on 1st June 2008 as the 'Historylinks Image Library', a development by Cromarty based Plexus Media from their popular website for public access to community photograph collections. Complementary to opening access to the multitude of objects held in the museum store, the Image Library permitted users to submit comments of factual or social history importance, which once accepted and published were subsequently incorporated in the museum catalogue. To date the total number of comments providing valuable feedback and incorporated in the museum catalogue is 2,014.

In 2020 with the Covid 19 'lock-down' museums were encouraged to enhance their viirtual presence and the museum was able to obtain grant funding for a significant upgrade of the Image Library. Of particular importance this enabled more extensive direct-linking of over 320 pdf files, of complete document bundles/publications, and introduce direct-links to museum videos. Plexus Media provided full co-operation in completing the necessary design and software revision to enable the launch of the successor 'Historylinks Archive' within three-weeks.

To assist in accessing the Archive, 'Tools' provides access to recent updates and advanced search facilities. 'Albums' shows the complete collection by cataloguing 'keywords'. Shortcut access to various photograph, document and object collections is available from 'Groups'. Once a selection has been made within a 'Group' there is a facility to 'turn the page', using the left and right arrowheads adjacent to the the Cat No. to view all photographs, documents or objects within that collection. (Groups/ Film) provides direct access to museum legacy videos. Unfortunately it is not possible to provide direct access to MP3 recordings of Dornoch Heritage Society talks, (c 40 - 60 minutes duration), due to the large size of MP3 files. Please contact the museum Curator concerning alternative means to access MP3 files.

At all times when viewing images you can leave your own comments using the form at the foot of each page. In this way we hope to verify information and add data to the museum catalogue. All comments are subject to approval prior to publication

Historylinks acknowledges that copyright of many images in the museum collection rests with the originator or publisher. All images displayed in the archive are for the purposes of contributing to social history in the Museum’s defined area of interest, the boundaries of Dornoch Parish, and principles of ‘Fair Use’ as defined in UK Copyright Regulations are paramount. The superimposed ‘HISTORYLINKS’ at the foot of each image is indicative that there should be no unilateral copying of an image prior to contacting Historylinks Museum. If anyone owns the copyright of an image and wishes to object to its use, please contact the Museum immediately and the image will be suspended pending the outcome of negotiation as to ‘Fair Use’. Re the comment about a photo of the late Angus MacPherson sitting on a wooden bench outside his hotel playing the chanter with a tiny child on his lap yes Ur ri Went to Golspie tech 1958/59. Student from Kinlichbervie Mr Foot quire master. There was a well kept garden run by the science teacher (name ) It had a swim J. G. MacDonald should read J. G. Macdonald (lower case d). He was my grandfather and I understand very particular about the spelling of his surname. The lady to the left of my Mum (Janette Bremner) is Charlotte Davidson, sister of Margaret Randall. I'm certain this is my granny's field at Muie it might even her in the picture As per one of the comments: June 4 is my birthday! I am Angus Macpherson’s Great Granddaughter. It must be me in the photo! I’m also interested in the day book Further to my previous comment, I am now able to identify 7 of the 8 in this picture. Back row L-R: Fg Off ?, Sqn Ldr Roy Simons, Gp Capt John de Severne, Mas I was interested to see this photograph as I am rear right in the picture, as a Master Engineer, and a member, and sometime Captain, of the Kinloss shooting tea These were made by my father Alan Walker, who was the potter, and owned Dornoch Pottery. We moved to Norfolk in, I think, 1976 and the new pottery was called El To the Right of the Photograph stood a large Organ which was installed in 1911. It was sold in 1933 by the then owner between The Duchess of Sutherlands daughte I’m sorry to bother you but I’m looking for any class pictures of students that went to the Golspie tech Acadamy between 1930 and 1940 . His name was John Adam
