Historylinks Image Library Donations
Added on 01 October 2016 at 16:01 by John Barnes
Please consider a donation to Historylinks Museum. We face a 50% reduction in our annual maintenance grant from the Highland Council effective from 1 April 2017. This will create a £6,000 hole in our budget and unless we can overcome this annual loss, the existence of the Museum will be at risk.. Our Image Library attracted 17,800 sessions in the past year, by the 12,055 visitors to the website (38% new), with a mean of 6.91 pages viewed during each session. This data indicates we have good reason to believe that the Image Library is appreciated. If each visitor could donate as little as 50p annually we could eliminate the hole in our budget and thereby sustain the Museum. As a form of 'crowdfunding' it would be greatly appreciated if our visitors could make a donation using the Paypal Donate button on the homepage. Thank you.
Woodland Trust Soundslides

In 2014 Historylinks Museum collaborated with the Woodland Trust providing images for inclusion in three short audio visual presentations, or ‘soundslides' on the human heritage of Ledmore and Migdale Woods. The three soundslides include one on the Canadian Forestry Corps stationed at Spinningdale during World War 2. This may be of particular interest to those who have viewed the Corps images on this website. Each 'soundslide', produced by volunteer interns, features beautiful photography and the voices of local people sharing their memories and knowledge of a particular theme. In 'The Canadian Forestry Corps', Blossom Gow and Hamish Matheson provide memories of the Corps. Two other soundslides are based on the theme of 'Worship in the Woods', with the Rev John Forbes, Rev Alexander Murray and Gavin Ross narrating an account of the Great Disruption of 1843 when local people broke away from the Established Church and held their church services in Migdale woods, and 'Carnegie Log Cabin', with Margaret Thomson, great grand-daughter of Andrew Carnegie searching Fairy Glen for the site of the family's log cabin. All three soundslides can be viewed on the Woodland Trust website (see link below)
